Perl
Perl is a general-purpose programming language that supports procedural, object-oriented and functional programming styles. It was developed in 1987 by Larry Wall mostly for text (ASCII) processing. During the past 23 years, it has continued to evolve and handle an increasing variety of text including Unicode, HTML and XML. Perl is often considered to be an important tool for system administrators.
